Cut the livin' bejeasus out of my left 'pointing' finger yesterday. Was cutting the top off of a plastic bottle to use it in one of my cloning boxes (build your own here) slipped and took a good swipe at it. I felt the knife hit the bone and stop. (If you needed that visual.. if not, tough) Immediately clamped pressure on it and one-handedly wheeled to the bathroom (no small chore) to install a bandaid. That did nothing to stop the bleeding, so I wrapped it in a paper towell and went to the ER.
While cutting myself didn't hurt too much at all ('hand on electric fence' or 'brick on toe' hurts more) the "numbing" shots to thst area are something I hope I don't have to go through again in the near (or far for that matter) future. They sucked ALOT. The wound itself is a strange shape (i'll take pics in a few days, it's wrapped now) so the nurse had to come in at all kinds of strange angles to get it done. "Can you feel ... (poke poke poke with the needle) ... OW! Then she'd go in there to get that spot ... poke poke poke... OW! .... This went on for about 15 minutes. About 1/2 way through I felt lightheaded and nausious and asked to lay on the gurney rather than sit in my chair... Which was an exciting one-handed transfer. (legs doan' work 'member?) But I made it.
About half way through I was tempted to tell her "Screw stitches, let's use that glue" or "Screw stitches, Just Tape It" But she said she was almost done. (liar)
Eventually she was finished and the Doc hooked me up with 4 stitches.
All in all not a bad expierence, even with Nurse PokeAlot. (who was very apologetic, so it's ok) There's (hell I dunno) about 20 knife wounds (not all self inflicted, some are from Military training / fights) on that hand so I'm no stranger to stitches over there, just it's the first time I've had a wounded hand since loosing my legs, and boy does it SUCK getting around. Pushing the chair isn't too difficult, it's just that i bang the cut on the spokes and everything all the time. That hurts a bit as I'm sure you can imagine. I'm gettin' by tho (typed this didn't I?) And I expect to be back to 'fully functioning cripple' here in a week or so.
In a side note, Dr McKinney put in to OWCP almost a year ago for a powerchair. It's been approved ('Cource OWCP forgot to tell anyone about the approval) and built and everything, trouble is the company quoted $7,000 but when it was made said "Oh that's wholesale. We want retail, which is $10,000." Which is causing all kinds of problems. Chico Medical is confident that I will get the chair someday, they are just unable to say "when".
But havin' a reserve powerchair sure would be nice right now.

Well no shit. A Maytag washer from the 30's, with a 2 stroke engine! Whoda thunkit?
yes I've been trolling Ebay again. Haven't bought anything today tho. (pats self on back)

Still off the neurontin, feeling smarter, but math still stumps me. Guess if I didn't have to count on my fingers so much...
